Excerpt from Garnish artist statement:
Garnish invites viewers into a provocative feast, where mixed-media sculptures, found objects, and hand-beaded photographs create an ornate cabinet of curiosities. Drawing from the natural world and decorative arts, the installation explores tensions between wild and domestic spaces, consumption and celebration.
I weave my Celtic heritage throughout the work, particularly in glass structures and beaded shapes inspired by Druidic ‘grails’ —vessels that embody balance through their masculine triangular bases and feminine lunar-shaped cups. These forms support vulvar shapes, historically symbolic of creativity and the divine feminine. The meticulous adornment of beads and precious stones references ritualistic practices of decoration for ceremony, transforming viewing into a sacred act.
